FIA confirms reduced pit lane speed limit

The pit lane speed limit will be reduced from the Hungarian Grand Prix onwards, with a majority vote being reached at a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC). Governing body the FIA announced its plans to bring forward the regulation, initially proposed for 2014, after FOM cameraman Paul Allen was struck by a loose wheel during the German Grand Prix, leaving him with a broken collarbone and cracked ribs. As opposed to the standard pit lane limit of 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in place throughout qualifying sessions and races earlier in the season, drivers will now be restricted to a lower speed of 80 km/h (49.7 mph) for the duration of future Grand Prix weekends.
