'Character-building afternoon' for Mercedes, says Wolff

The race at the Nurburgring was to show that Mercedes AMG Petronas are still having some difficulties in trying to solve the tyre issues that plague the team, even with the Pirelli test carried out in Barcelona not being really related to this season's tyres.  From the very start. it seemed that both drivers went backwards rather quicker than anyone in the Brackley-based squad had expected.
