Hamilton Fastest But Rosberg Suffers

Lewis Hamilton edged the Red Bulls to gain pole position for the German GP but it was a poor day for Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg who didn't make it into Q3. Hamilton set a 1:29.398 just one tenth faster than that set by Sebastian Vettel and two tenths ahead of Mark Webber, with both Lotus following behind – Raikkonen ahead of Grosjean. However, the story of the session was the failure of Rosberg to make it into Q3 – from the outside looking in, it appeared the team had misjudged  the required time and the German was sat idle in the garage as Button, Hulkenberg and Daniel Ricciardo took advantage of a change in track conditions to slip ahead.
