Ricciardo tops soaked Friday morning practice

Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest time in a soaking wet first practice session at the British Grand Prix that saw very little action until the final ten minutes. It took 76 minutes for Ricciardo to set the first timed lap, clocking a time over two minutes before improving over his next eight attempts. His lap prompted a flurry of activity in the final ten minutes but several drivers still opted not to head back out or returned to the pits before the end of the lap and so did not set a time. Lewis Hamilton led at one stage, briefly lifting the spirits of the drenched British crowd, but Ricciardo, Nico Hulkenberg and Pastor Maldonado all went faster before the end of the session.
