Surprise test convinces Valsecchi he is ready for F1

Davide Valsecchi says his morning in the Lotus at Barcelona on Saturday has convinced him he is quick enough to race in F1. The GP2 champion drove 16 laps in the E21 after Kimi Raikkonen fell ill overnight and was not deemed fit enough to drive. Valsecchi jumped at the chance and performed some exhaust comparison checks before setting a 1:23.448, putting him ninth overall but within a second of fourth-placed Pastor Maldonado. "This morning gave me the confidence that I'm strong enough to be in the group, but I would like to be strong enough to try to win races - that is the aim. Lotus is a top team and Raikkonen is strong enough to win the championship so I would like to be like him....
