McLaren's Lowe to join Mercedes

McLaren technical director Paddy Lowe is to leave the team to join rivals Mercedes. The 50-year-old will remain officially employed by McLaren until the end of the year but on 'gardening leave'. The role Lowe will fulfil when he joins Mercedes for 2014 is not totally clear, but he is expected to run the team along with new Mercedes sports boss Toto Wolff. That leaves Ross Brawn's position as team principal unclear. Mercedes are refusing to comment.
