2014 Mercedes engines will produce a 'sweet sound'

The engines for the 2014 Formula 1 season will not disappoint fans around the world – at least in the sound department. New regulations will ditch the current 2.4 litre V8s for 1.6 litre V6s, reducing the output by 3000rpm to 15,000 rpm, but will be boosted by an energy recovery system (ERS) and a turbocharger in by next year. Concerns were raised about whether the new power units will continue to attract fans with many, including F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, claiming that the new specifications would make the engine sound “terrible”.
