Whitmarsh: Drivers will have equal status

Sergio Pérez has been promised equal status at McLaren ahead of the 2013 campaign, with Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh reiterating there will not be a number two driver at the outfit. The Mexican started work with his new team on Wednesday and will partner 2009 World Champion Jenson Button this season. 'People like to have that debate,' Whitmarsh told Sky Sports from McLaren's factory. 'The fact is Jenson has got the advantage in terms of he knows the team, he has the experience and he is a World Champion.
