The 26-year-old German took the all-black No. 47 Honda for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing around the 1.5-mile oval for 97 laps, diving headfirst into a brand-new world of high-speed left turns, tyre degradation, and setup experiments. “We reached it pretty early,” Schumacher told Motorsport.com, reflecting on the learning curve. “With the car being quite high in ride height, the car was moving around quite a bit; it was loose in the rear.
